Early one Spring morning, Longslim, Squatty, Celly and Beau set out to catch the beautiful grey stallion that leads a herd of wild horses roaming the hills north of the Canadian River.
Upon reaching the herd, Longslim and Squatty station Celly and Beau where they will be out of danger but still think they are assisting in the capture. Then Longslim and Squatty head out to rope the horse. The stallion ruins their plans when he gallops away from them and straight to the trees where Celly and Beau are waiting. Much to Longslim's and Squatty's surprise, the children lasso the horse, which Squatty refers to as a "skinny" thing - and the name stuck.
